Another five minutes has gone by, which means it’s time for the Republicans to nominate another crackpot conspiracy theorist for higher office—because, apparently, that’s the only kind of Republican that’s left. The current honors go to Richard Hudson, who’s running in North Carolina’s 8th District. First, though, he has to win the Republican primary, and to do that, he has to cater to roomfuls of Tea Party crackpots, who I think were once teed off about taxes or something but who quickly devolved into the easier-to-ply waters of birtherism, racism and other conspiracy theories. Here we see Mr. Hudson happily obliging the flotilla of dimwits:
“There’s no question President Obama’s hiding something on his citizenship. If you elect me to Congress to represent you, I’ll introduce legislation that requires any candidate for president or vice president to be certified by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court as being a citizen. Whether that’s a birth certificate or whatever it means, I’m going to make real simple from now on if you want to run for president, you’re need to know you’re going to have to prove you’re a citizen.”
Great, just great. Another dumbass running for Congress. Like we need another one of those.
Can we please stage an intervention or something? Must we have one of the two dominant political parties in the United States devote itself entirely to the farthest crackpot fringe of the nation? I realize this is North Carolina, the state that gave us the empty candy dish that is Virginia Foxx, but still.
I don’t know how foul you’ll need to be in order to be considered a GOP “frontrunner” for something four or six years from now, but at the rate we’re going, people will be wearing Klan robes to Congress.
